How To Make Delicious Turkish Coffee?

What is Turkish coffee?

The first thing we need to clarify is that Turkey coffee does not have its own coffee beans. Arabica beans are finely ground and used to make coffee. It's more cooking than brewing. Although the term Turkish coffee refers to the method of coffee preparation, I must tell you that it does not look like ordinary coffee beans. It is ground so finely that you might think it is cocoa powder when you first see it. This is why we also like it as an ingredient, even in baked biscuits. Coffee grounds are mixed with water and sugar (optional) in a special coffee pot called cezve or ibrik. They are the ideal pot for making this authentic coffee. These are small copper pots with long handles, but stainless steel, ceramic, and even glass pots are also common today. They have different sizes. The smallest is one serving, and the largest can reach six servings. It is small and deep, with a wide bottom and a narrow neck, which helps the coffee produce a lot of foam. The coffee and water in this pot are simmered slowly on the lowest heat or traditionally simmered on hot sand.

You will end up with a thick foamy coffee with a strong aroma. It is contained in a traditional small Turkish coffee cup with a lot of foam on the top. It is important to have enough foam, which shows how well you know the art of coffee making.

Turkish coffee is rich and mellow, making it a pleasant drink suitable for enjoying with friends. It is brewed in a copper coffee pot called cezve (Jez-VEY), made with powdered coffee powder and sweetened according to the taste of the drinker. Making a perfect cup of Turkish coffee is a great way to show off your coffee-making skills.

It has a history of hundreds of years in the Middle East and the Balkans. The method of making traditional Turkish coffee varies slightly from region to region and family. It's not difficult, but putting the iconic foam of strong coffee on it takes practice.

This style of coffee is not filtered. Instead, coffee is ground very finely, similar to flour, and becomes part of the beverage. The measurement method is also different: use the serving cup to measure the teaspoon of coffee and sugar in the water and tableware. You can brew coffee with different sweetness or without sugar.

Turkish coffee is served in a demitasse-sized cup, which can hold approximately 2 1/2 ounces on the high side. Never stir during or after brewing. Some people like to brew with milk, and the additives (sugar and milk) are always added to the brewing pot instead of the cup. It has a strong flavor similar to strong coffee and is usually drunk with a glass of cold water as a palate cleanser. Turkish delight is a popular dessert to enjoy with coffee, but chocolate is a delicious substitute.

Tips For Making Turkish Coffee

First of all, this coffee needs freshly ground before brewing, and the level of grinding should be very fine, almost to the state of flour. If you do not have an electric grinder that can grind so fine, you at least need a hand-operated grinder that can grind to the Turkish grind, and this is the most important key to brewing Turkish.

After we grind the coffee beans, we can prepare to make coffee. You can use an espresso cup as a measuring tool. Pour 3 or 4 cups of cold water into the pot (approximately 200ml). Turkish pots are easily available online. Then, you need to add 3 to 4 teaspoons of sugar to cold water, but don't stir it yet.

Then place the pot on the gas stove. If you added sugar in the previous step, the sugar would caramelize when the water is heated, making the brewed coffee sweeter and making the taste more round and delicious.

When the water boils, remove the Turkish pot from the fire, add 20g of freshly ground coffee powder to the pot and stir evenly.

Then put the coffee back on the stove and pay close attention to the changes. When the liquid boils and rises to the top of the pot, quickly remove the pot from the heat source to let the liquid drop, and at the same time, use a small spoon to stir the surface to let the larger bubbles disappear. Then put it back on the stove to heat up. Repeat the above action twice.

When the liquid boils for the third time, it is ready to enjoy!

Please turn off the stove and let it stand for 30 seconds. Use a spoon to remove the foam on the top. Then pour the brewed coffee into the cup, reserve some not to finish, and let the coffee cup stand for another minute.

Then it's time to taste the Turkish coffee! Please enjoy your coffee time!
